A quick emotional post…

I’m not getting that warm fuzzy feeling about Congress anymore.

My thoughts on the economy

OK, I know that the best minds are working on the “problem” of the economy. But I would like to add, as succinctly as possible, my own thoughts and feelings concerning the current situation… or at least how I feel about the situation after listening to the news the past few weeks….

Feminism (A Palin/Clinton issue)

Image

OK, let me weigh in like the rest of the blogging world about the theory of Feminism and the train wreck it is experiencing. If you haven’t been paying attention, please go to Google and type in Palin or Clinton and Feminism. But do it after you read this post please… you’ll never come back. You’ll be reading forever. There are a lot of articles to read and some are just great and some really aren’t. Some will make your blood boil (regardless of where you stand) but have no substance. Some have huge benefit to the discussion but aren’t very compelling… You’ll either ***YAWN*** or go ***HUH?***.

Feminism (that is feminine theory purported by some organizations) has always bewildered me. At some point in a discussion or debate with someone, regardless of the direction or topic within Feminism, I lock up because I realize that we (the debater and I) are talking about different things. It was only recently that I realized that Feminism is not about females being treated equal as females. Did you hear me? That is NOT what it is about! More specifically, it is not about bringing womanhood to social equality. Maybe it was at some point, but it isn’t any more. Don’t believe the hype or the rhetoric. So what is it about? Brace yourself:

thoughts on a “feminist” article…part 1

The following is the beginning of my thoughts on an article that my friend had a link to on her facebook. It is a first attempt at articulating or starting to articulate the response that wells up within me as I read and hear how people in our fair land are looking at things.
My friend and I used to have more similar views but now it seems there may have been a bit of a shift in her thinking, or perhaps I never really knew her thoughts… the article she is linking to is entitled “Zombie feminists of the RNC” and it’s written by Rebecca Traister on www.salon.com. and my friend describes it as illustrative of her own inner conflicts…….

The article seems to be a discussion of her emotions regarding the use of the Feminist movement to describe VP candidate Sarah Palin. I understand her trouble since she seems to have bought in to the Feminist movement’s rhetoric and now some terminology seems to have been hijacked by someone and employed for a different purpose. My understanding is in no way fully informed so I’m not saying I know it all by any stretch but from what I do know…. here’s what I see…. Continue Reading »

check check check….is this thing on?

Wow! how long has it been????

What makes a great leader?

MLK
What makes a great leader?

At some point in my Christian life, I came to a conclusion. I wanted to be more than morally good. I wanted to make a difference in the world for His kingdom. I decided I needed to know what a leader is and what a leader does. Jesus was a leader… right? And so my questions began:

What makes a leader a good leader? What abilities or skills do leader hone in order to inspire, direct, recruit, guide, bless, enrich, and engender other people? How do leaders gain support, make connections, find opportunities, influence people. How in the world do people get their way without making everyone their enemy? Continue Reading »

What’s Taking So Long…

A long time ago, I said I would write about some of the convictions (read: rebukes) that I was experiencing as I was making my way through the book of Colossians. Well I haven’t gotten to it… (duh). Mostly because I have to find the exact… right… words… period…(or should that be… “exclamation”… maybe a dash would be better… see what I mean! Grrr!)

Anyway, Colossians, is a really great letter… and I guess they all are, but Colossians surprises me because Paul leads off with the idea of being a slave to Christ.

…just as you learned it from ?Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf (NASU Col 1:7)

That idea is an underlying theme that the Holy Spirit via Paul uses to trump and denounce the false teaching and the high status that the false teachers are lording over other believers. The spiritually elite are trumped by the ordinary slave of Jesus… no… not trumped… EXPOSED.

Paul exaults Christ as Lord, Himself as his Bond-Slave, given the responsibility of serving (not judging) the church, and the care/proclamation of the gospel.  Now what I mean by judging is not the issue of calling sin, “sin”.  That is part of serving the church, actually.  What I gather in Colossions chapter 2 is that there were a few that were displaying their own spirituallity as superior and the spirituality of other as “weighed, measured, and found lacking.  You must do more to be really close to God”.

This thread of slavery overwhelmed what my plans where for teaching Colossians.  I mean I was really surprised by this element in Colossians.  It is so beautifully subtle, but the theme is so strong it crushes the problem of the false teachers.  I mean just crushes it!  Suddenly legalism is a non-issue.

Christ is Lord
(He alone is the one who weighs and measures)
Christ has paid
(and by His Blood out of His own righteousness the charges against us are removed)
Christ our Lord
(we His bond-servants, transfered to His Kingdom)

That’s all I have for now.  I’ll have to write more later.  Hopefully, earlier than 6 months from now… :-)

I am a horrid man

I just had a lousy conversation with my wife. What I do for a living isn’t very glamourous, but it does take a lot of time. Right now we are gassed out. Completely exausted from just trying to keep up with mundane life. But I have to work more overtime. Just now I l told my wife that we couldn’t play tonight or tomorrow. I guess what I am frustrated about is the fact that I am unable to meet what seems like the normal demands of life. Husband, father, work, church/ministry & self care are all going to the dogs. Do I get out of the current career? It seems lilke there is a simple solution. Father, help me find it!
